Welcome to TGÖ, new member of FESASS

On September 23, TierGesundheit Österreich (TGÖ) officially became a member of FESASS. This organization replaces our previous Austrian member NTÖ, which is more a generalist organisation.

Indeed, Austrian livestock farmers’ animal health organizations created TGÖ to represent them at the national level. Its members come from the agricultural sector, veterinary medicine, commerce (dairy farms and slaughterhouses), and animal health services.

TGÖ Structure

Recognized under Austrian animal health law, its responsibilities cover the entire field of animal health in livestock farming, in accordance with the obligations of the Animal Health Law (AHL). TGÖ therefore carries out the following tasks:

  1. Support farmers in implementing animal health requirements and measures to protect against biological risks (Articles 10 and 11 of the AHL).
  2. Coordinate and support the implementation of measures relating to advisory services, disease detection, and epidemic prevention (health inspections, Article 25 of the AHL).
  3. Develop national programs for certain diseases.
  4. Ensure uniform standards for measures to improve animal health and biosecurity in the livestock sector.
  5. Develop training and continuing education materials and provide knowledge to operators and professionals in the animal sector in the areas of animal diseases, zoonoses, food safety, protection against biological risks, veterinary drugs, resistance, and the interaction between animal health, animal welfare, and human health.
  6. Network and provision of data, as well as expanded data management for epidemic prevention.

We welcome TGÖ and are delighted to have their technical expertise on board. We would like to thank NTÖ for their excellent collaboration over the years and for the involvement of their representatives in FESASS.
